A Wonderful Tradition of Holiday Memories
This year marks the 10th annual staging of the Christmas Market in Baltimore, and it didn't take long for the event to become a cherished tradition for local families. The Christmas Market is modeled after the types of markets that you'll find around the holidays in Germany, like the famous Christkindl Market that takes place in Nuremberg every year. It draws on traditions that date back to at least the 16th century in Germany, with a mix of food, shopping, entertainment, and fun holiday activities to be enjoyed by every member of the family.
Explore Exciting Events Throughout the Holiday Season
The event schedule for this year's Christmas Market is already filling up, with even more expected to be added as opening day draws nearer. Already, you can look forward to the Tree Lighting (Nov. 18), Grand Opening Ceremony (Nov. 25), Christmas Market 10th Birthday Bash (Dec. 16), and Last-Minute Christmas Shopping Day (Dec. 23). There are also themed weekends to look forward to, including German American Weekend (Dec. 2-3) and Family Weekend (Dec. 9-10). You'll also find plenty of great everyday activities to enjoy, including rides for the kids, like the Christmas Village Carousel and the Ferris Wheel.
Shop from Local and International Vendors
If you're looking for a place where you can find truly unique gifts, it's tough to top this annual market. The list of vendors only seems to grow larger every year, featuring everything from traditional, handmade German Christmas ornaments to art, jewelry, toys, and even gifts for your furry friends. Vendors at the Christmas market typically include a mix of local artisans and European crafters, which leads to a very diverse selection for your holiday shopping needs.
Delve into Delicious Wine Tastings
Looking for a fun way to relax and unwind during a busy holiday season? The Thirsty Thursday Wine Tastings series takes place every Thursday evening at the Christmas Village in Baltimore from 4-8 p.m. Held in partnership with locally owned and operated Boordy Vineyards, each tasting highlights a variety of outstanding wines perfect for gifting or serving at your own holiday parties.
Warm Up with Hot Drinks at The Pyramid
The newest attraction at the Christmas Market, The Pyramid was introduced in 2019 as another nod to traditional German markets. It serves as the central point of the market, towering over the surrounding scenery. Inside, you'll find a tempting selection of hot, festive cocktails, mulled wines, and non-alcoholic seasonal drinks. The mulled wine served here is produced in Germany, and The Pyramid was built by a German craftsman, as well.
