Spending an afternoon fishing is one of our real estate agents' favorite ways to unwind. If you're a fishing enthusiast, too, you'll be happy to hear that there are plenty of great fishing spots near our Lancaster homes for sale. Visit one of these five locations this weekend for a little quiet time angling in the summer sun.
- Lake Grubb Nature Park - 671 Hempfield Hill Road, Columbia, PA 17512
Lake Grubb Nature Park spans over 54 acres of land once used as an iron mine. This beautiful park near our Columbia homes for sale is one of the most comfortable areas for extended fishing sessions. On top of its eponymous Lake Grubb, it also contains grill stations and working bathrooms to help make your time at the park more pleasant.
Boating is not allowed on the lake, but park officials have designated a few spots along the lake as fishing locations to help avid anglers enjoy the lake from the shore. Some fish you can expect to hook include brown trout, northern pike, and pickerel.
- Windolph Landing Park - Wilderness Road, Lancaster, PA 17603
With an updated play area for kids and a full complement of picnic tables, Windolph Landing Park is a favorite location of many Lancaster families. It offers easy access to the waters of the Conestoga River.
The waters here are calmer than at many other points on the river, making this a good spot for beginner fishermen to try their luck. If you're successful, you could reel in a wide variety of fish, including smallmouth bass, walleyes, and carp.
- Perelman Park - 1996 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 1760
Perelman Park comprises 5.1 acres of land on the site of an old paper mill. Here, you'll find another fishing access point on the Conestoga River—and this one is big enough to serve as a canoe launch as well.
If you head out on the water here, you'll be able to catch many different types of fish, including catfish, bass, and rainbow trout. It's a great place to cast your line, kick back, and relax in the sun's rays in your own tranquil canoe.
- Chickies Rock County Park - 880 Chickies Hill Road, Columbia, PA 17512
Chickies Rock County Park is the second-largest regional park in the Lancaster area. It's situated on an old historical site littered with bits of old furnaces, mills, trolley lines, and other infrastructure, making it one of the more unique Pennsylvania parks to explore.
This park offers access to three different areas of interest to fishermen: Chiques Creek, Donegal Creek, and the Susquehanna River. Dip your line into each of them to find local fish species like flathead catfish, several types of trout, and even some muskellunge.
- Columbia River Park - 41 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512
Columbia River Park is another small park along the shores of the Susquehanna River. This location is a boater's paradise, offering canoe, kayak, and boat launches to help you get to every part of the river you want to fish during your trip.
The park also encompasses 53 miles of the Susquehanna River Trail, a sprawling path that runs next to the water. This is known to be an excellent area for catching smallmouth bass. If you're lucky, you might manage to snag a rarer sunfish or yellow perch as well.
