The Appalachian Trail Museum has a mission to share the history of the iconic hiking route, along with stories of those who have traveled along it. In 2016, the museum opened a children's section that includes a mini-version of the trail with educational interactive features. Hours are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, and admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Significant events of the Civil War played out right around Carlisle homes for sale. Take the self-guided Civil War Tour to learn how history shaped this area. Learn how the Confederate infantry occupied Dickinson College, whose students were divided in their loyalties, and view the scars left behind from artillery shells that hit the Cumberland County Courthouse. When you think about works of art, produce probably isn't what comes to mind. Gain a new perspective on creativity with a visit to Meadowbrooke Gourds. When founder Ben Bear applied his carpentry background to gooseneck gourds, he realized people were more interested in them as craft items. In addition to selling the beautiful products created by himself and his team, Ben shares his knowledge with others through classes and DIY kits. Meadowbrooke Gourds is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Cumberland Valley Rail Trail - 23 McFarland St., Newville, PA 17241
The Cumberland Valley Railroad played an integral role in the economic development of the area near Newville homes for sale. One of its most treasured legacies is the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, which provides a scenic route for walkers, hikers, bicyclists, and horseback riders, as well as leashed dogs. Situated in the Allenberry Resort, not far from Boiling Springs homes for sale, the theater opened in 1949. Renovations in 2017 retained the charm of the original playhouse while incorporating modern upgrades. Upcoming shows include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (9/3-9/19), Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery (10/15-10/24), and Elf: The Musical (12/3-12/19). Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for kids and students.
