March 1st is Barista Day, and we thought we'd take the opportunity to share some of our favorite Baltimore coffee shops. Head to one of these great local businesses to thank a barista on Barista Day, and maybe leave an extra buck or two in that tip jar!
- Artifact Coffee - 1500 Union Ave., Baltimore, MD 21211
Located in a reclaimed former mill in Baltimore's Woodberry neighborhood, Artifact Coffee is a hip, rustic joint that also happens to offer some of the best coffee in town. In addition to perfect coffees and espresso drinks, the folks at artifact also make some killer sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, including great vegetarian options like the veggie bahn mi and mushroom Ruben. Artifact Coffee is currently offering curbside pickup and local delivery, and you'll find numerous beautiful Baltimore homes for sale nearby.
- Vent Coffee Roasters - 1700 W. 41st St. #480, Baltimore, MD 21211
Offering some of the best coffee in Baltimore, Vent Coffee Roasters is a small-batch roaster that shares a space at Union Collective with several other locally owned businesses. Their coffee is velvety smooth and bursting with flavor. Vent Coffee Roasters is currently open for to-go orders only, and if you live in the area, they'll deliver freshly roasted beans right to your door.
- Bird in Hand - 11 E. 33rd St., Baltimore, MD 21218
Bird in Hand strives to create a warm, welcoming space for their customers, and in that they've succeeded. This cozy cafe and book shop is a great place to browse while you sip a hot mug of your favorite beverage. While their services are restricted due to the pandemic, they are currently offering online ordering for both books and coffee, as well as private browsing by appointment.
- Aveley Farms Coffee Roasters - 1400 Aliceanna St., Baltimore, MD 21231
Inspired by the hip, high-end roasteries of the West Coast, Aveley Farms Coffee Roasters make coffee that is simply on another level. Every bean is sustainably sourced and roasted in-house, and the best way to enjoy the complex flavors is to order a pour-over from one of their expert baristas. The folks at Aveley Farms also craft some of Baltimore's most perfect espresso drinks. Each sip is frothy, silky, and bold, with just the right level of acidity.
- Zeke's Coffee - 4719 Harford Rd., Baltimore, MD 21214
Serving house-roasted coffee in a relaxed, low-key space, Zeke's Coffee is one of Baltimore's go-to destinations for a hot cup of Joe (and maybe a bagel or croissant). Zeke's is currently offering window service at their brick-and-mortar location in the Lauraville neighborhood, and they also provide coffee seasonally at various local farmers markets.
- Sophomore Coffee - 2223 Maryland Ave., Baltimore, MD 21218
A fun, funky addition to Baltimore's coffee culture, Sophomore Coffee is an underground haunt in the Historic Old Goucher neighborhood. Their selection of coffees is ever-changing, but reliably great, as they frequently feature "roaster residencies" with coffee from some of the best roasters from all over the country. They're currently open for carry-out every day from 8 am until 2 pm.
