With six battalions operating out of 38 fire stations strategically located around a 92-square-mile area, the Baltimore City Fire Department is able to efficiently respond to upwards of 270,000 emergencies each year. Putting out fires is only part of their job. EMTs and paramedics receive certification from Baltimore's EMS Academy, where they undergo 15 weeks of training in driving, hazmat, Firefighter 1, and basic lifesaving techniques.
