For more than 60 years, the Baltimore St. Patrick Parade has been a highlight of the holiday, and a chance to celebrate everything that makes life in the city special. You can start the day with a special parade day mass at the Basilica of the Assumption, or head straight for the parade route, which begins at the Washington Monument. From there, the parade travels down Charles and Pratt streets, toward the Inner Harbor. The parade is filled with song, dance, floats, and so much more, with a festive atmosphere that every member of the family can enjoy.
Irish organizations from throughout the city contribute to the Baltimore St. Patrick Parade, both by raising funds and participating in the parade itself. Each organization has its own Marshall, and the parade is led by the Grand Marshall, with someone different playing the lead role each year.
There's no doubt that St. Patrick's Day is a fantastic holiday for dining and drinks, so why not treat yourself to a great workout before the day's festivities? The annual Shamrock 5k Race, held just before the parade, is a fun opportunity to enjoy a festive, 5k run through the historic streets of Baltimore. The race starts at the intersection of Charles and Franklin streets, then winds through the city before concluding with an after-party at Power Plant Live! Register in advance to make race day as smooth as possible.
Whether you're a long-time resident or currently shopping for Baltimore homes for sale, the Baltimore St. Patrick Parade is a great chance to see what the city has to offer. To make the most of your experience at the parade, it's recommended to arrive early, plan your parking, and find a spot along the parade route before the Shamrock 5k Race, which precedes the parade. You can reserve a parking spot in advance through a parking app, or head to the route early to find your own.
If you're interested in volunteering to support the parade, you can contact the parade committee directly or work with one of the many local Irish organizations that work to support and raise funds for the parade all year long.
