Baltimore is known for its crab cakes, gorgeous marina, and famous historic residents like Babe Ruth and Edgar Allen Poe. Look a little closer, and you'll discover more and more in this vibrant city: It's home to a growing and energetic craft beer industry!
Over the last few years, craft beer has truly exploded onto the scene. People enjoy it because of its creativity, its diversity, and just how easy it is to develop a flavor that's truly all your own. Cities, states, and regions all have craft breweries that strive to create the iconic local taste. It's not surprising that Baltimore, with its world-class culinary scene, has attracted several of them.
One of the most exciting in recent memory is Checkerspot Brewing Company.
Checkerspot Brewing Company is a Maryland original and the brainchild of husband and wife duo Rob and Judy Neff, backed by business partner Steve Marsh. It now stands at 175 W. Ostend Street in a 10,000-square foot brewery and taproom.
While many people get involved in craft brewery as a hobby, Judy Neff stands out from the crowd: Her Ph.D. in microbiology from prestigious Johns Hopkins University means that the Checkerspot Brewing Company is equipped to push the envelope with its products.
Business partner Steve Marsh is an accomplished brewery operations consultant, while Rob's background in construction rehabs makes him the ideal choice to handle sales and distribution.
Checkerspot's two-floor tap room will give it special charm and ambience as it looks down on the 15-barrel brewery. Targeted to open early in 2018, the brewery will be open on a daily basis to invite guests for tours, tastings, and two meals a day – lunch and dinner.
Checkerspot is expected to become a new community hotspot, especially during baseball and football seasons. The spacious tap room will be well-equipped to show off the hottest action from the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Plus, priority will be given to community fundraisers.
When Checkerspot arrives, it will be joining good company in South Baltimore.
The area is already home to two established local brewing companies: Diamondback Brewing Company and Suspended Brewing Company. With a Year 1 production goal of 1,000 barrels, Checkerspot is noted for being named for the Checkerspot butterfly, Michigan's state butterfly.
Checkerspot Brewery is just another great part of Baltimore's growing entertainment scene, part of a revitalization effort that's been drawing more people to look twice at the city they thought they knew. Live events, music, and cinema are also seeing a resurgence here.
Not surprisingly, now is the best time to explore your Baltimore real estate options!
