Baltimore Homes Little Montgomery Street
Baltimore is filled with well-known museums, historic sites and longtime local businesses, but those aren't the only places where you can experience the city's rich history. There are historic districts spread throughout the city of Baltimore, each with its own unique character, architecture and story. These are the places where past citizens of Baltimore have shaped the city's history, and the perfect place for current residents to learn more about the city's past. The Little Montgomery Street Historic District is a great example of Baltimore's proud, blue collar history and an excellent place to shop for homes in the present day.

Life in the Little Montgomery Street Historic District

The Little Montgomery Street Historic District is located just a few blocks from the Inner Harbor in South Baltimore, so it's no surprise that so many people chose to settle down here in the city's early days. Most of the historic buildings in the district were built in the 1800s as homes for working-class people from all backgrounds.

  • The neighborhood was built up with a few different waves of construction, beginning in the 1840s and continuing for decades to come. By the 1890s, the Little Montgomery Street Historic District had become a large, thriving neighborhood of its own.
  • Historic homes here reflect the needs of the blue collar inhabitants who made the district their home. They tend to be single-family homes, built from brick and made to last.
  • And wow, did they ever last! Little Montgomery Street earned its status as a historic district thanks to those well-built homes, and the very diverse collection of residents that made the neighborhood their own.
  • In its early days, the neighborhood was very popular among recent immigrants, freed slaves, and anyone else looking to build a life in the growing city of Baltimore. The hard work of those early residents allowed the neighborhood to grow rapidly, and earned its place as a historic district.

The growth of the Little Montgomery Street Historic District mirrors the growth of the city as a whole, and today the neighborhood enjoys a prime location at the center of the action in the city. Living in the neighborhood means you're just a short walk from the Inner Harbor, Fell's Point, and the many historic destinations that dot Baltimore's landscape.

  • Make the short trip to the Inner Harbor to enjoy beautiful coastal scenery, explore the many available entertainment options, and of course enjoy some of the best seafood that you'll find anywhere.
  • The award-winning National Aquarium of Baltimore is also located in the Inner Harbor, and is definitely worth a few visits. You won't find a better destination for an afternoon of family fun.
  • Oriole Park at Camden Yards inspired a whole generation of retro-themed ballparks, and it's still the best in the bunch. It's also easy to access via public transportation from Little Montgomery.
  • Fells Point is another historic district very close to Little Montgomery, filled with historic visits and new favorites. This is the place to be when you're in the mood for dinner and drinks.
  • Finally, be sure to check out the nearby Federal Hill, where you'll find recreation facilities, relaxation, and some of the best views in the city.
