Transportation

Winterstown is located just east of Interstate 83 giving easy access to York and Harrisburg to the North and Baltimore to the South. Winterstown is situated south of Route 30 making that an easy connection to Lancaster as well. If you're heading out of town, Winterstown is an hour's drive to either Harrisburg International Airport or Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

Rabbit Transit offers direct train service to York on the 10s route which can be picked up in nearby Dallastown. Once in York there are many routes around the city and an express directly to Harrisburg.

Business and Economy


With its close proximity to York, Lancaster, and Harrisburg, Winterstown is close to many business development opportunities. York is the home of York Barbell which provides weight training and bodybuilding equipment and is also the home of the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame, and A factory for Harley-Davidson motorcycles which houses half of the production workforce for their motorcycle division. York is also home to the Stauffer Biscuit Company, and a Starbucks Roasting Facility.

The Lancaster General Hospital is a hub for medical professionals, and Burle Industries produces vacuum tube products. Harrisburg, the capital city of Pennsylvania, offers even more opportunity. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employs almost 22,000 people and the U.S. Government has 18,000 jobs in Harrisburg, along with the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, just ten miles outside Harrisburg, which is another hub for medical professionals.

Schools and Education

Winterstown children are a part of the Red Lion Area school district. Students will attend N. Hopewell-Winterstown Elementary School. From there they will move on to Red Lion Area Jr. High School, and finally Red Lion Area Senior High School. Most of the schools in the district received a rating of 6 or better from GreatSchools.org, and students enjoy small class sizes and dedicated teachers.

After high school, students can attend Central Pennsylvania's Community College, Penn State University's York Campus, and several specialty schools such as the YTI Career Institute, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, or the Consolidated School of Business.

Things to Do in Winterstown 

The Samuel S. Lewis State Park is in nearby Lewisberry and offers picnicking opportunities among the beautiful scenery which includes Mt. Pisgah. Also nearby is Codorus State Park with 3,490 acres of rolling hills for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and hunting along with Lake Marburg for swimming, boating, fishing and ice skating. The park also has campgrounds for tent camping and cottages as well.

In nearby Lancaster, the Lancaster Brewing Company is loved by the locals for its wide variety of local "suds." In Harrisburg, art lovers can visit the State Museum of Pennsylvania and enjoy its many exhibits. There are paintings, photographs, fossilized dinosaurs, Native American artifacts, and more spread across it's three floors. The National Civil War Museum touts itself as the only museum in the U.S. that portrays the entire story of the American Civil War. Harrisburg also has a minor league baseball park, and houses the State Library of Pennsylvania.
