Much of the White Marsh residential real estate community is situated near I-95 and I-695, which provides easy access to Baltimore, Towson, and many other East Coast cities. Two popular venues, White Marsh Mall (one of the largest in Baltimore) and the Avenue at White Marsh (featuring a main street theme), are centers for shopping and dining for visitors and White Marsh real estate owners alike.

The district serves more than 107,033 students in 174 schools, programs and centers. It is the 26th largest school district in the nation and the third largest in Maryland.

Baltimore County Public Schools employs 8,792 teachers for a total of 18,783 employees. The district has a $1.5 billion yearly budget.

According to Baltimore County Public Schools district officials, the students earned $103.7 million in scholarships in 2012. More than 7,300 students graduate from the Baltimore County Public Schools annually. More than 87.5 percent of all graduates seek higher education. The district’s high standards of education include an International Baccalaureate program at two high schools, and an average of 17 advanced placement courses at each high school.

More than half of all Baltimore County Public Schools’ traditional and magnet high schools are listed among the nation’s top schools. The Washington Post named 13 of the district’s high schools in the top 9 percent in the nation. Eleven schools were among Newsweek/The Daily Beast’s list of America’s Best High Schools.
The Baltimore County Public Schools has the second highest graduation rate among the nation’s largest school districts, as honored by Education Week in June 2013.

In addition to a nationally recognized music program, the Baltimore County Public Schools was recognized by Education Week, the International Society for Technology in Education, National Public Radio, and more, for the district’s creation of technology partnerships with companies such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, The John Hopkins University and area software developers.

There are several private schools available in Baltimore County including Baltimore Lutheran School, Notre Dame Preparatory, Calvert Hall College High School, and Loyola Blakefield.

White Marsh has several major universities and colleges in close proximity. The Community College of Baltimore County, Morgan State University, Towson University, Loyola University Maryland, John Hopkins University, University of Baltimore and the University of Maryland-Baltimore are less than 12 miles from White Marsh.

Business and Economy

The town center of White Marsh features a concentrated shopping and business district. The White Marsh Mall, one of the largest regional malls in Baltimore County, features five anchor stores. Next door to the mall is an IKEA store, the third IKEA in the nation to be built.

Baltimore County is home the world headquarters of McCormick & Company, the makers of spices, herbs and flavorings for retail, commercial and industrial customers. FILA USA, the sportswear manufacturer, is headquartered in Sparks, Maryland. 

Baltimore County is also home to major employers, including MedStar, Franklin Square Medical Center, the Social Security Administration, Firaxis Games, and Black and Decker.
