Though mostly a residential neighborhood, this quiet neighborhood is home to Mount Washington Village and Mount Washington Mill. Mt. Washington Village, a shopping experience featuring retailers and restaurateurs, offers salons, cafes, and a variety of restaurants. Mount Washington Village, a historic area, features charm, wood hills, and a stream. Locals consider it the getaway place. The Mt. Washington Merchants Association represents many of the businesses at the village and promotes businesses and events for families. High school students may attend nearby Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, known as “Poly” or Western High School, both a part of the Baltimore City School District.
The Baltimore City College is in the Baltimore City School District. Locals refer to this school as “City” and it known for its high academics. It is a magnet school with the International Baccalaureate Program as well as emphasis on humanities and liberal arts. City is the third oldest public high school in the nation. The local middle school is Roland Park Middle School, a school that is strong academically.
Residents of Mt. Washington have local private school options, including Shrine of the Sacred Heart School or the Waldorf School.
For commuters, Mt. Washington is home to a light rail station, the Mount Washington Station, operated by the Maryland Transit Administration. The Central Light Rail line stops near Mount Washington Mill and Mount Washington Village providing quick access to downtown Baltimore as well as Hunt Valley and the airport.
