History

Local legends claim the borough of Camp Hill got its name when the Peace Church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, split. One faction of the church met outdoors on a hill. Prior to the American Civil War, the area was known locally as White Hill, a stop along the Cumberland Valley Railroad between Harrisburg and the town of Carlisle.

Camp Hill was the site of the June 1893 Battle of Sporting Hill, the northernmost conflict of the Gettysburg campaign.

Camp Hill has been incorporated since November 10, 1885.
